foo = year.create()

Yep, it's the "New Year" and to that I give my normal answer: so? :) There are some fun things happening personally in the area of programming and even in my personal life so that's all good. I'm having a blast doing what most people consider to be the tedious work of writing data gathering scripts for OSAF -- some basic gather-chew-spew code to let them see performance data. At my day job I'm splitting out the peer-to-peer transaction code into it's own program instead of being lumped in with the transaction server. There is just too much network specific code that is starting to be needed because of that evil thing known as the "NAT Firewall"! Evil I say! Lainens and I spent the xmas holiday at our best friends house in Maryland -- I love getting together with the twisted mind that is Welton. It's like taking my brain and running it thru the wringer a couple times. I always come back from a visit with him feeling good. One of the interesting projects I've been lurking in is the work being done over in the "CivicspaceLabs":http://www.civicspacelabs.org project. It's a project that takes the CMS concept and merges it with non-technical procedures so that teams can collaborate. I'm sure it's more than that, but you get the picture. The software was used a lot by the political parties to coordinate the many activities during the last election season and recently it's starting to be used by people who want to organize like-minded folks who may be spread out across the world. Kinda like what the early days of BBS' were doing. One good example would be a new site a friend is doing to get professional software managers together: "Software Managers Resource":http://softwaremanagers.org
