scons

I’ve been tooling around with using “scons":http://www.scons.org to build code for the “Once":http://once.net.nz project and it has been fun. Not only is it python code (with a twist) but it’s also sooo not like autoconf/automake - yea! While this caused some initial glitches because my mind wasn’t grok’ing the scons way of thinking, it’s now become a lot easier and unlike any of the auto-foo tools, if you need to make some choices or tweaks to the environment that scons runs under you can just use python! Lainens and I had a rather low- key, non-computer holiday :) We caught up on some movie watching and basically just enjoyed the really cool weather. Well, except for Sunday when we took her father to visit his sister in New Jersey. anywho :) Also had an interesting conversation in WorldForge about the different libraries for doing game network handling and about the philosphy (or lack of) that a lot of WF’rs follow - being mostly coders the tendancy is to roll-your-own and that was pointed out as one of the key reasons why WorldForge is still working on delivering a game. Now it’s not as simple as what the previous sentance implies, what with almost all of the coders doing this as a hobby and also with the consideration that when some of the plans were started their were very few choices - but still it was a fun discussion.
